Born at 19 Rotherfield Street, Islington.I think she was called witin the family "Lily".Note:HELENA (Mary Anne Helena McCarthy) was born 8th Jan 1853. So she was conceived around March/April 1952. Her father John Justin McCarthy was then aged 25, and her mother Mary Ann Lloyd was still under age. In June 1952 John Justin left for Australia (hence those letters we have seen - where John Justin clearly expresses his continued love for her). This mentions many of her brothers, Aunts and related families such as the Osbornes, and family friends such as Mary Ann Reeves, Lucy Ticehurst, Richard Jeffrey and Mr. Fudge.If you look up Charles Reeve aged 59 Pawnbroker in 1881C you will find Reeve children mentioned.The Reeves family are interesting: Charles Reeves married Ann Elizabeth WHITROE in Westminster in 1849. The Whitroes were running the pawnbroker shop at 18 Strutton Ground around 1870s (although I guess McCarthys still owned it).Mr Fudge is probably Edward Fudge aged 41 Pawnbroker in 1881C.Mary Ann GRAY is in 1861 Census as Visitor Married F 32 1829 HertfordshireDiary mentions the type of presents she got such as music sheet, perfume, jewellery, and often dancing and not going to bed until 3 to 5 in the morning.Clearly the McCarthy family were comfortably off during this period.1871 Census: appears in John Justin (father) household aged c.17 Civil Parish 1871: St Leonards, Shoreditch,Ecclesiastical Parish: St Mary1881 Census: appears in John Justin (father) household aged c.25Osbourne-Herd Genealogy:confirms Date: 1871 Place: St Leonard Shoreditch, London, England1881-82: Married (based on 1991 census record)1891 Census: living with father John Justin living in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Southcote Road, Selbourne, and mother Mary Ann, and husband John Evans).
