Births Oct-Dec 1899: McCarthy Elsie Beatrice Hackney 1b 433Commonly called "Biddy" by members of the family. 1901 census: MCCARTHY, Elsie Daughter Single F 1 so born 1899-1900 Hackney London1920 (Jan-March ) Marriages: McCarthy Elsie B Hackney 1b 719 White Douglas Hackney 1b 719 also in drawn family tree.It seems clear to me that the drawn family tree is heavily based on Samual Trant McCarthy's of Munster. It has the same mistakes (no James Robert McCarthy, son of John Justin b.1827 - probably because he had died before its publication in 1922) and has instead a son called Percy (marrying L.Squires) - FreeBMD shows Percy is actually John Percy (he was always referred to as "Percy" even in the will of John Justin McCarthy I managed to get a copy of) who married a Lydia Squiers.Note: McCarthys of Munster 1997 edition p 530 has Elsie as Terence Lloyd's daughter (not sister)- but think its wrong:source: New edition of S.T.MaCarthys "McCarthys of Munster" published 1997.Elsie's son Irvine b1921 is still alive. He remembers the family stories his mother told him. I have following from Mary his daughter:"John Justin McCarthy had a big house in Epping Forest called Bel-Air (not sure of the spelling). Justin McCarthy younger brother of Charles, my father's grandfather, eloped with the cook, Martha to Australia where he went panning for gold. They settled in a ranch and had a daughter Winnie. At sometime, Stanley and his son Peter were riding in Epping Forest, knocked at Bel Air and got the address in Australia. Peter went out there.Story has it, that Justin and Martha thought that he'd make a good match for Winnie. Peter wasn't so keen and moved to the Northern Territories, then came back to Britain after the war.He set up a gun workshop in Southgate.""John Justin McCarthy, pawnbroker, had a second home in St Leonards where many of the McCarthy clan resided during the Summer months. Kate didn't have much time for the larger clan - hangers on she thought - whereas she and Charles had worked hard starting their own pawnbroker shops in Stoke Newington. They lived in a house there called Warwick Lodge."
