These documents are held at Guildhall Library1826 Feb 16th: Found in the Proceedings of the OLD BAILEY (on internet):WILLIAM HENRY LLOYD . I am a pawnbroker, and live in Strutton-ground - I have two sheets pawned by the prisoner (CATHERINE MULLINS)1828 12th Feb: From Mary Blakely: “ I have the date of Mary Ann Lock's first marriage to William Henry Lloyd in St Margaret as24th September 1828. . I must have seen the register, but do not seem to have taken a copy".1832: 26 January MS 11936/533/1133918 : The National Archives:Insured: William Henry Lloyd, 18 Strutton Ground Westminster, pawnbrokerThese documents are held at Guildhall Library1835: June 15th: Found in the Proceedings of the OLD BAILEY (on internet):JAMES WATSON . I am shopman to Mr. Lloyd, a pawnbroker, at Strutton-ground, Westminster. On the 4th of June, about nine o'clock in the evening, the prisoner came and pledged a coat, waistcoat, and trowsers, in the name of Manuel Lopez—I produce them—I gave him 30s. on them—I am sure he is the man—on the day following I received a bill describing the property lost, and gave information—I went with a constable in search of the prisoner, and in about an hour, in consequence of information, I went back to the station-house, and saw the prisoner coming in a direction of the station-house, apparently drunk—I pointed him out to the officer, who took him.Note: James Weston later found described as Assistant Pawnbroker at Edgeware Road in 1897 in http://www.blacksheepindex.co.uk/ : This site lists over 500,000 names taken from over 1500 NEWSPAPERS & JOURNALS etc1836: younger brother John James Lloyd mentioned as "assistant to my brother, who keeps a pawnbroker shop" (witness in Central Crime Courts records)1837 Westminster Poll St Margaret's Ward there is a William Henry Lloyd at Strutton Ground 1840: Deaths Mar 1840 : LLOYD William Henry Westminster 1 337 1840 Feb 28th: date of will. This will mentions his brothers and sisters name, and his three infant children (implying they are minors when he wrote the will). In will he mentions he is owner of 18 Strutton Ground where he ran his pawnbroker business, and also of 60 Strutton Ground, his dwelling. His will benefits his brothers and sister, his wife, and to his 3 infant children he leaves 120 pounds annually until they come of age. His brother Robert James Lloyd and friends Francis Barry and George Barber are names the trustees. His mother Mary Ann (Lock) is named, but not his father (assumed dead by this time).1841: shows his brother John James Lloyd still working at the pawnbroker shop:JOHN JAMES LLOYD . I am a pawnbroker, and live at No. 18, Strutton-ground. I have a pair of boots, pawned by the prisoner for 1s. 6d., on the 20th of August, in the after part of the day.1851 Census: No Lloyds are living at 18 Strutton Ground. Instead:CUSHWAY, James Servant Unmarried M 23 1828 Pawn Broker Shopmaker Bethnal GreenMiddlesex - although 182 record shows Robert John Lloyd running the business as one of the trustees.1855: William is Described as Pawnbroker (taken up from his father who started the business) in his daughters wedding certificate of 1855 (it was not unusual for marriage certificates not to indicate that in fact her father was already deceased )Note:18 Strutton Ground was renumbered as 1 between 1881 and 1895. The Westminster Palace Hotel must have been built where 1-17 were.Note : The Lloyds managed 18 Strutton till at least 1852, and as trustees until 1855. Notes from (I believe) Arthr Vernon Mulinngs (picked up at "J. MCarthy Ltd" ) indicate Willam Henry Lloyd's sons were alcoholics, so trustees probably decided to give inheritance of pawnbroker shop to sister Mary Ann Lloyd who was minor until 1855 when she married John Justin McCarthy. [ Note :The MCarthy-Lloyd connections are truly cemented during thsi period. I count three McCarthy-Lloyd marriages:1843 James McCarthy (of Tralee) marries Mary Ann Lock nee Lloyd (widow of William Henry Lloyd)1855 John Justin marries Mary Ann Lloyd1857 Thomasin Ellen McCarthy marries Robert James Lloyd. To this day (2009) some of the McCarthys carry the Lloyd name eg) Alexander Justin Lloyd born 1959.]From 1871- 1891C the Whitroes take ownership of the shop at 18 Strutton Ground (Whitroes also have marriage connectiosn to the Lloyds ) and then 1901C Vernon de Courcy McCarthy, and presumably from 1920s to the Mullings family. Note: Some of the details on the Lloyd family are based on notes I received from Vernon Nicholas Mulllings (who I met and who owns the J. McCarthy Establishment - jewellers in Artillery Row in London (still operating today in 2009).
