It was probably his son John who went bust in 1847.1872: dairy of Mary Ann Helena McCarthy mentions "John Whitroe cam and stayed until Thursday", so Whitroe and McCarthy family were still associated by this date.

Felix Whitroe (1832-1917) was the son of William Henry Lloyd's sister Anne Lloyd (1795-1891) and John Whitroe(1794-1881). Felix was clearly also successful sending his children to public school.It appears Felix was in business with John Justin McCarthy in running the business at 18,Strutton Ground Westminster.-------------------------------1893: NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, John McCarthy and Felix Thomas Whitroe, as Pawnbrokers, at 18, Strutton Ground, Westminster, has been this day dissolved by mutual consent.
